Perimeter Systems offers several high-performance, stand-alone active and passive infrared sensors specifically designed for outdoor intrusion detection applications.
Active infrared technology employs a two-column sensor for detection of intruders. The transmitter unit emits invisible active infrared beams. The receiver unit receives and analyses the beams and detects intruders passing between the two columns.
With passive infrared technology, intrusions are detected by sensing temperature (heat radiation) contrast between an intruder moving through the detection pattern and the background environment. Rugged construction, integrated heaters and self-adapting technology assure the reliable operation and constant detection capacity of Perimeter Systems’ infrared devices under changing environmental conditions or temperature extremes.
Where Should I Install My Infrared Sensors?
To get the most out of your infrared sensors, installing them to guard a perimeter, or to guard paths to places of potential interest or high traffic areas is the best way to get the most out of your infrared sensors. As well as this, it’s best to install them in areas which are either hard to spot or near impossible for an intruder to reach without activating them, such as on walls and ceilings.
But, just as there are places where you should be installing your infrared sensors, there are also many places where you shouldn’t install your infrared sensors. Infrared sensors are activated by objects which emit heat, so installing them near heat sources in your home or business, such as radiators may activate them. On the other hand, installing infrared sensors near sources of cooled or cold air, such as air conditioning vents may also set them off. Infrared sensors can also be activated by changes in light, so installing them near lights or windows where they can be activated by the sun may cause you some problems.
If you’re confused about what infrared sensors you should get, or where they need to be installed, don’t stress. Our team have worked on hundreds of security projects, and will work with you to ensure that your infrared security system doesn’t have any gaps.
